UPDATE: 8/8/2011 - This year's Expo was a "trial-run" and we got our answer!  There was such an excellent response that a larger turnout would have caused major issues!  This is a good problem that will be dealt with next time.  We are already making plans for next year's Spokane Sustainable Preparedness Expo as well as other Expos elsewhere.  Check back for more info or "like" our Facebook Page to stay in touch.  Special thanks to all the exhibitors and staff who invested in making this Expo a success.

Are you totally dependent for your basic necessities of life--water, heat, and food?  Would you be able to provide your family with these essentials if there was a disruption of utilities, either minor or major?  How would you fare if/when the Inland Northwest experiences disasters as other parts of the nation have?

We are introducing a very timely event this summer - the Spokane Sustainable Preparedness EXPO!

WHEN:
July 31 - 2011 ~ 11AM - 6:30PM

WHERE:
Spokane County Fair & Expo Center
404 North Havana St
Spokane Valley, WA 99202
Online Map

WHAT:

About the Speakers

Craig, Nancy & Nick Meissner - The Meissners used their background in construction and developing to establish an off-grid homestead in the mountains that is heated with wood, utilizes an independent water system, and grows produce.  Their goal was to set up in such a way that they are able to provide for their basic necessities of life while placing as little dependence as possible on "the system".  They glean from their years of living this simpler, independent lifestyle while lecturing across the nation on various aspects of Sustainable Preparedness.  The Meissners authored the very instructional book Sustainable Preparedness and have also produced numerous practical DVDs, including the popular documentary Urban Danger.

Dave Westbrook - Dave is the director of the documentary film America's Cities: The Coming Crisis. The movie takes viewers on a journey from the streets of America's cities to personal interviews with leading experts who reveal the disturbing truth about what lies ahead for the nation's metropolitan areas. In making the film Dave spoke with members of congress, authorities from leading universities, military, and disaster planning agencies including a former high ranking FEMA official. Dave is also an author and international speaker and has hosted rallies in major cities in the United States and Canada to raise awareness of the threats facing urban areas and what families can do to prepare for what's coming. Recently, he started "Country Living University", an online training program teaching the skills needed to transition from urban to country living. .

David Stottlemyer - David graduated with a degree in agriculture and taught gardening classes for 7 years at Loma Linda University and La Sierra Campus (now known as La Sierra University). He then worked for 17 years at the University of California, Riverside Campus as an SRA II doing avocado research (first in irrigation, then in the avocado breeding program).  David operates Summer Hill Farm and does gardening lectures and field demonstrations for Harvest For Life.

Diane Burnett, MD - Diane M. Burnett, MD has been in the health field for over 35 years.  After Family Practice Residency at the University of  Arizona, she operated her own practice utilizing natural remedies and served as a missionary doctor for Native Americans in a variety of capacities.  She most recently served as Medical Director at Uchee Pines Lifestyle Institute. Currently she is running reCREATION Lifestyle Health.

Lisa Puffer - Lisa Puffer is a Certified Massage Therapist and Lifestyle Counselor.  She has worked and trained under physicians at several lifestyle centers and has taught Massage, Hydrotherapy, Principles of True Education, and other topics.  In addition, Lisa has lectured on health, cooking, and natural remedies in the US and abroad.  Lisa has worked with Dr. Diane for more than two years and brings a variety of skills to the ReCREATION Lifestyle Health team.
